Animation requires understanding how objects move through space and time. This masterclass breaks down the twelve principles of animation through practical application rather than
theoretical discussion.
You will animate a series of increasingly complex exercises: bouncing balls with varying weights, pendulum swings, flour sack characters performing actions, and eventually bipedal
walks and runs. Each assignment focuses on specific principles like anticipation, follow-through, and overlapping action. Frame-by-frame analysis of professional animation reveals how
timing choices affect emotional tone and physical believability.
The course uses both Maya and Blender, allowing you to choose your preferred toolset. Sessions cover graph editor manipulation, blocking methods, and the transition from stepped to
splined animation. You will learn to identify and correct common mistakes like floating, sliding feet and unnatural acceleration curves.
Later modules introduce acting choices, body language, and facial performance. The final project requires animating a character through an emotional beat with dialogue, demonstrating
technical skill and performance sensibility.
